Liverpool Hope University is a public university and has grown out of three teacher training colleges: Notre Dame College, Saint Katharine's College (previously known as Warrington Training College), and Christ's College.
 

Liverpool Hope University was built on Christian principles and is an ecumenical university, the only ecumenical university in the UK, with Saint Katharine's College being an Anglican and both Notre Dame and Christ's both Catholic educational institutions. Liverpool’s Anglican Bishop David Sheppard and Catholic Archbishop Derek Worlock had prominent roles in the formation of Hope University. Hope University is aptly named after Hope Street in Liverpool’s city centre, which is the road that connects the city's Anglican and Catholic cathedrals.
